Year 6 Maths

Throughout the year, pupils in year 6 will have access to a broad maths curriculum. There will be plenty of opportunities for cross-curricular maths in art, science, D.T and PE. The outdoors, interactive games and challenging problem solving lessons will all help to stretch their understanding of a range of maths concepts. Below is a brief outline of termly maths overviews.

 

Maths Topics – Autumn Term 

During this term we will be working on the following areas:

  • Place Value
  • Multiplication
  • Division
  • Addition and subtraction
  • Algebra
  • Time
  • Area, perimeter and volume
  • Negative numbers
  • Fractions

We will also be working hard on our recall of mental maths facts and our understanding of mental strategies. We will apply problem solving and reasoning to all topics.

 

Maths Topics – Spring Term 

During this term we will be working on the following areas:

  • Number and place value revision
  • Multiplying and dividing fractions
  • Written multiplication and division
  • Factors, multiples, primes and square numbers
  • Calculating the mean
  • 4 quadrant grids, coordinates and translation
  • Algebra

Year 6 will be working hard on their fluency in arithmetic and application to problem solving and reasoning questions.
